Rhodochrosite, The Affordable Pink Gemstone

If you didn't know that was a semi-precious gemstone you would think it was a frozen water ice with crushed raspberries and strawberries.

Rhodochrosite is similarly gorgeous!

It is a translucent crystal and was first found and mined in Argentina where the most prized rhodochrosite is red. This is pretty rare.

Rhodochrosite has brown and greenish patches but the best quality used for jewellery is pink with cream and showing wonderful banding or rosettes. There are relatively few pink gemstones at an affordable price and if you find rose quartz jewellery too pastel for your colouring and can't afford tourmalines, rubies or pink sapphires and diamonds, then rhodochrosite is a great choice.

Rhodochrosite is a relatively soft crystal - 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs Scale of Hardness - and so is used in cabochon form i.e. uncut stones. A protective surface treatment will mitigate against scratches and knocks without detracting from the stone's texture, beauty and character.

All our rhodochrosite jewellery features gemstones treated in this way.
